Marlee, an Aboriginal word for elder tree, is an ancient plant steeped in mystery and superstition. With its thick clusters of tiny white flowers and dark black berries, it's thought to ward off evil and give protection from witches. In some traditions, the tree was regarded as a gift from the Earth Mother who lived within it.

Benefits of Organic Cotton

Certified organic cotton is grown in a way that uses methods and materials that lessen the impact on our environment, such as improved soil fertility and use of less water. The crops aren't treated with pesticides, insecticides, herbicides and Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO). These toxins are harmful for farmers and workers, to us as consumers, wildlife, and entire eco systems. And yet, less than one percent of all cotton grown is organic.

Did you know - conventionally grown (non-organic) cotton uses more insecticides than any other crop in the world? It is estimated that each year cotton producers use as much as 25 percent of the world’s insecticides and more than 10 percent of the world’s pesticides; an enormous amount for just one crop!

Every day we feel the harmful effects of non-organic cottons and fabrics. These carcinogens poison farmers all over the world, as well as animals and wildlife when it seeps into the earth, lakes, rivers and waterways. We can and must do better!

What can we do? We can start by making better choices when we shop for ourselves and our furry friends. Together we can make the world a happier and healthier place!
